নতুন ভিসানীতি প্রণয়ন করছে সরকার। ২০০৬ সালে প্রণীত ভিসানীতি সংশোধন করে নতুন এই নীতি করা হচ্ছে। বৃহস্পতিবার সচিবালয়ের মন্ত্রিপরিষদ ভবনের জনপ্রশাসন সভাকক্ষে মন্ত্রিসভার বৈঠকে এর খসড়া উপস্থাপন করা হয় বলে এক বিবৃতিতে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়। খসড়াটি পরিমার্জনের জন্য অর্থমন্ত্রী আমির খসরু মাহমুদ চৌধুরীর সভাপতিত্বে একটি মন্ত্রিসভা কমিটি গঠন করা হয়েছে। বিকাল সাড়ে ৪টায় এই বৈঠক শুরু হয়। শেষ হয় ৫টা ৫৫ মিনিটে। এতে সভাপতিত্ব করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী তারেক রহমান।
বিবৃতিতে বলা হয়, বিদেশিদের বাংলাদেশে আগমন ও প্রস্থানকে সহজ ও সুশৃঙ্খল করা; বিদেশি বিনিয়োগ, ব্যবসা ও দক্ষ মানবসম্পদ আকৃষ্ট করা; পর্যটন ও আতিথেয়তা খাতকে উৎসাহিত করা; প্রযুক্তি ও জ্ঞান স্থানান্তর নিশ্চিত করা; জাতীয় নিরাপত্তা ও আন্তর্জাতিক কূটনৈতিক ভারসাম্য বজায় রাখা; পারস্পরিকতা (reciprocit) নীতির ভিত্তিতে আন্তর্জাতিক ভ্রমণ ব্যবস্থাপনা করা এবং আধুনিক এবং সেবামুখী অভিবাসন কাঠামো গড়ে তোলার উদ্দেশ্য ২০০৬ সালে জারিকৃত ভিসা নীতিমালা সংশোধন করে ভিসা পলিসি ২০২৬-এর খসড়া পরিমার্জনের জন্য অর্থমন্ত্রীর সভাপতিত্বে একটি মন্ত্রিসভা কমিটি গঠন করা হয়েছে।
স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় এ কমিটিকে সাচিবিক সহায়তা প্রদান করবে বলেও বিবৃতিতে জানানো হয়।
